Meredith Michaels Beerbaum, olympic medalist and the first ever woman who was ranked #1 in FEI:s world rankings, shows how she warms up a horse before jumping a course. Meredith explains what the most important aspects of warming up are and why it is so important to have all parts of the warmup in place.

International show jumper Lillie Keenan uses this fantastic pole exercise, taught to her by Michael Matz, for improving a good connection from the rider’s seat, rather than the reins and hand. In this video, Lillie demonstrates how you can use the poles to mimic the approach to a jump in the ring. At first she shows you how you can try it with a young horse and then makes it harder with some variations. Try out this exercise if you wanted to improve your seat and practice to approach to a jump!

Controlling your seat.
While the horse needs exercise, we also need to be mindful of out own seated positions. I find this very help in showing how to correct seated position.

Leg yields! Unfortunately the arena had jumps up, but did my best to work around those… 😜

Here's our attempt at a leg yield! I have been a showjumper all my life and only recently started to do dressage with Draco at the beginning of the year. Sadly he had been mistreated so when I purchased him last year I had to gain his trust and teach him from the beginning! Now we have two dressage lessons a week and are both slowly learning. Please be kind!
