Useful exercise for “green” horses, if figure eight with round circles is still difficult for them. These prolongate lines will help the horse to regain balance before the turns.
You could use the cones or other markers to make this exercise more easier to accomplish.
Try to ride these figures - smaller part of fig.8 with the inside flexion, bigger - with the same flexion (which is the flexion to the outside). When riding the horse with the outside flexion keep looking to the inside. Horse looks to outside but You keep looking in the direction You are riding. It prevents You from shifting to the outside.
Try this in walk and trot.
