Training spiral vs pyramid
I have not read the book yet, but a new(er) book by Sue Grice "The Training Spiral" (2023) changes the concept of a pyramid to help better understand the process through time. I have had times where I feel stuck - I loose rhythm or suppleness while working on movements for contact or straightness. This change in framing has helped me better internalize that you go through the pyramid concepts repeatedly as you work up through the levels. You expect more from the horse in each domain, and have to reassert lessons as you go. I think this shift can help move forward even even you haven't "perfected" one of the concepts, you just work in it at the level you can with the horse at the time and expect more as you go along with training.
