I’ve been really wanting to try going bitless as I really believe my mare will be so muchões relaxed. She’s very responsive to everything and gets tense super easily. I’ve tried using a rope on the neck with the usual bridle, and some small exercises and she went quite well. What are the more important steps to get my horse used to not having anything in her mouth (and then head) thanks!

Hi there! If she's pretty close to being fully trained from your seat- a flower hackamore or a side pull can be great to transition into without sacrificing some cues through the rein. The flower style, also called a wheel hackamore, can still put pressure on the nose with minimal leverage if your horse is still learning to pay attention to your asks- you can still direct rein too if needed. A sidepull has no leverage and is great if you still need louder rein cues. Both I believe are allowed in some English rings. You can get an idea if you need the flower hack before the sidepull by just riding in a halter. Side pulls are very similar with more comfortable of a fit- so if you can ride with just the halter and clip on reins- you're good to go! If youre riding more western and your horse is neck reining or one handed riding pretty confidently, a true rawhide bosal is usually well accepted.
