i train/take care of a young green horse, and recently started riding him but he is verry lazy and barely moves forward. and i dont know how to get him more active. i use a dressage whip to give a tap if he needs it but i try to do is as little as possible, and i prefer to not use spurs. but i dont know what to do. i know that he isnt in pain and he can go faster, just not while riding. any tips please??? also the moment i praise him with pats or words he stands still. (i know my riding isnt perfect and the halter is there for a reason)

@neliene glad he is going better! Like I said, some are just slow starters and move very sluggishly under saddle to begin with, they get better and more forward as their mileage increases!

@dressage.girl thanks for the tip, but it has been going way better and he is way more active so i think he just needed to get used to it.
