Hay Hay Hay !!!! I HAVE A PSA !
I thought I would share what happen with me the other day. I normally get my hay from a in town supplier. In Texas we have " Coastal " hay. Normally I feed my boys Timothy Pellet and Beet Pulp soaked and they get a bale or two of Coastal hay for the week to keep them busy. However, the other day I wasn't close to my normal supplier , but went to a different tack store an just purchased 1 bale until I could get to my regular guy.
In theory this tack store is part of a chain, and isn't too far from another store I occasionally purchase hay from in a pinch . so the hay should be from the same places They hay looked okay, Next thing I know suddenly after a few hours , I had 5 horses Colicing all at the same time. OH MY GOSH!!!. The hay had something wrong with it. Lucky for me I had bannamine on hand. The point of the post is to remember to keep supplies on hand such as banamine and Bute , syringes . and all medical first aid items, these things can be a life saver to your horse . also update your emergency vets number and post it to where it can be found easy. Moreover, make sure you have at least 2 if not 3 emergency vets you can contact Love to hear in the comments what you keep in your first aid at your barn .
